YogaBellies

A bit about Cheryl…

“I love teaching women YogaBellies! YogaBellies is so much more than a yoga class, we stretch ourselves – body, mind and soul – but the most important aspect, is we’re all looking out for each other, supporting each other. We undergo so many radical life changes as women – and it can be bloody scary. We need that community to support, relax and grow as individuals.

Having babies and stopping our periods, these can be huge and emotional and physically demanding times, with massive adjustments. As a society, we’ve become disjointed in our acceptance and even acknowledgement of these stages. The whole concept of YogaBellies is to enable us embrace and enjoy each new stage as it comes along. To actually enjoy being a woman and to enjoy the friendships and support of other women.”

Cheryl MacDonaldYogaBellies founder and creator of the Birth ROCKS Method

About Me…

I am a Yoga Elder and therapist, a mother, a wife, an author, an ethical business woman. I have been practising yoga for 25 years and have trained extensively in yoga for women, holistic therapies, birth education, hypnosis, traditional female wellness practices across the globe. I’ve trained hundreds of YogaBellies Teachers and birth mentors over the past 12 years. My skills and experience combined with my absolute adoration of ALL THINGS yoga and the belief that anyone can practice yoga, are the essence of YogaBellies®. Take a peek at me on BBC’s Dragons’ Den or on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ with Holly Willoughby)

I created the Birth ROCKS method: The only bespoke birth preparation practice that is customized to parents needs. I’ve written 8 books on 9 including Birth ROCKS, YogaBellies for Pregnancy, 4 x YogaBunnies books and created various journals for women and yoga. I run yoga retreats and teacher training cross the globe and love all things yoga, woman and baby. I am a successful ‘mumpreneur’ and has been awarded multiple awards and accreditation’s including The Scottish Edge Award, three What’s on 4 Little One’s Awards as well as being finalist in Woman of the Year, Working Mum’s Best Employer and What’s on 4 Junior’s Awards. I have also worked with celebrities such as Kimberley Walsh (of Girls Aloud fame), Fearne Cotton and Catherine Tyldsley (Coronation Street) in birth preparation and on their yoga practice too.

I created the YogaBellies style of yoga focused around the fluidity and flexibility of the female body and soul and around the key life stages of a woman. We offer classes through menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum all the way through menopause, using our unique BREATHE SENSE MOVE SLEEP practices. Our bespoke BAP’s programme brings physical integrity to those key anatomical areas where women work the hardest: Back, Abs and the Pelvic Floor.

I am blessed to be joined by a training faculty of Shishyas and teachers with a wealth of experience, including yoga teachers, doctors, midwives, massage therapists and chiropractors.

Cheryl on Yoga for Pregnancy and with Baby…

“I have often said that doing yoga with your child is the most yogic thing you will ever do. You may not complete all of the practice that you wanted to, because baby wants to feed or sleep or cry: I think this is a great introduction to motherhood and new mum’s very quickly realise its not all about them anymore. In our classes, we encourage mums to just go with it and accept what comes with the session. Acceptance is a big part of motherhood.

For me, perinatal yoga is not only about building strength and stamina for birth or learning effective breathing techniques, but about bonding with your baby (even in utero) and learning to accept your role as a mother. Our classes are so much more than yoga that’s safe for pregnancy: our sessions are an all-encompassing journey through pregnancy and birth guided by yogic principles.”
